Last night I heard what I think to be a Long-eared Owl. I compared
what I heard to Peterson's recordings of owls and narrowed it down to
Great Gray, Flammulated, or Long-eared. I mimicked the call and had a
bird fly in and clap its wings several times. As this was occurring
around 10pm I was not able to see the bird. A Great Horned Owl also
responded to my call and both the mystery bird and the Great Horned were
heard simultaneously. I know that there have been a few records of Long-
eared Owls in the islands of northwestern Washington and am wondering
if I that is what I heard. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Sincerely,
Paul Moorehead
