Well, I was going to order your book (before it made the best-seller list
and was impossible to obtain). Now, I'm not so sure. Perhaps I should
wait for the reviews to come out? Aw, what the heck, send me the book
and I'll remit the $17.00 (or whatever the price in Birding was) by return
mail.

The pelagic trip scheduled for the 23rd was canceled because of
insufficient signup--not particularly surprising.

Regarding the 'Kamchatka' Gull, further study of California Gulls at
Westmorela nd turned up a few which approached the slide I sent you in
wing and tail pattern. I'm convinced that its a California (and so are
Skip and Jeff as well). Undaunted, I went out to East Delta Park and
found a real one in a flock of Mew Gulls last week. These flight photos
are (I believe) pretty definitive. Narrow, solid black tail band and
dark gray back; overall slightly larger than the rest of the flock of 40
or so Mew Gulls in the same photo; a first winter bird.
