I meant to add to my comments about dowitchers that fish are common in the
diet of Greater Yellowlegs, as are invertebrates. Their foraging technique
often includes running around and chasing active prey. Lesser Yellowlegs
much less actively chase visual prey but spend a lot of time 'scything' the
water like miniature avocets, capturing prey by touch. Both utilize a
variety of methods, but both feed very largely in water.
