hey, cool! i thought that i had heard only short-billed dowitchers.
it's nice to know that all of those concerts didn't totally ruin
my hearing, as i had been warned about.

i noticed that the greater yellowlegs also liked to hang out in the
marshes in groups of eight to twleve individuals. ocassionally,
i would also spot a few western sandpipers straggling along with
them but the yellowlegs were usually in small groups by themselves.

i did see a bird yesterday that i could not identify. it was at a
public access beach (twin something-or-other state park). it was
sitting on a post that jutted out of the water near the shore.
there was a group of black-bellied plovers sitting on the top
of these posts next to it. the bird was a reddish color and was
very close to the same size as the plovers (it *may* have been
slightly smaller). it had part of its head tucked under its wing
so i couldn't see its bill. it slept the entire time that i was
there, staring at it in vain, hoping that it would wake up.
i have a guess as to its identity, but i am a little bit chicken
to say it outloud. what do you guys think it was?
