Regarding message...

<off 97 in the Swauk Pass area, which has been recommended for
<Black-backed Woodpeckers, is off limits. So we're going to go farther
<south, through White Pass to Wenas and maybe the Goldendale area. If
<anyone has recommendations for special spots in that general region,
<especially for woodpeckers and owls, I'd appreciate a quick note.

I spent a few hours yesterday afternoon birding the Wenas area with some
friends from Louisiana. We were able to find 2, and possibley 3, White-headed
Woodpeckers in the Wenas campground in the pines along the west side of the
creek. They were very noisy(calling and feeding) and conspicuous at about 4pm.
