A friend sent me an update on the peregrines in Cleveland, dated July 8.
The adults hatched 4 chicks. A squad of volunteers kepth an eye on them,
rescuing one when it flew into a window and fell to the 4th floor roof
of the entrance to the Terminal Tower (the nest is on the 12th floor).
All four chicks were flying well enough for the volunteers to leave their
posts, so this was a successful breeding. The male falcon, Szell, has
been at the site since 1989. Last year, Szell and his mate, Zenith,
hatched 2 chicks. Early this year, a younger female, Sunrise, teamed up
with Szell but was chased off by Zenith. Sunrise has since been spotted
with a new mate in Detroit. Four other falcons have been observed along
Lake Erie's coast in Lakewood, but no news of other chicks.
