Hello birders,
I've had a report of 13 dead birds picked up off San Juan
Island. Last year there was 1,000 to 3,000 birds killed as incidental
catch in the gill net fishery in the San Juan Islands. I had the
impression that this would not happen this year because of either a
change in fishing gear regulations or a closure of salmon fishing in
that area. Do any of the members know if the gill net fishery is
taking place now, and can we expect a similar mortality this year?
I am interested in receiving stomach contents data from any dead
birds picked up in this area.
