Subject: Ross's update - Thursday sighting
Date: Dec 1 17:40:15 1994

Hi All,

I won't waste bandwidth repeating the excellent directions already
posted, but I can attest that the bird put on a good showing Thursday
morning at the dam, circling around the outfall pipe. K Sauter and I
watched it from the time first checked that spot at about 8:30 ish
until we left an hour or more later (we were on the platform/catwalk
overlooking the dam). We had started the morning downstream at the
loafing spot, but didn't see it there.

*unconfirmed* sighting: if you're downstream by the roosting bar, check
any GWTeal you see for the eurasian subspecies. I didn't stop to make sure
(still hadn't seen the Ross's at that point) but thought I saw one on the
biggest pond in the "nature and wildlife" area.

Two travel tips: before taking Neil Fergusson's four-hour-from-the-start-of
I-90 estimate at face value remember: 1), the pass, and 2), to watch out for
low flying Cessnas (I was busted for going 75 mph about an hour from the
river).

Later,

Chris
