The latest (Dec.,1994) issue of Pacific Northwest magazine has an article on p.
10 about three pigs being put on an island near the Anchorage Airport in order
toeat the eggs of Sea Gulls, geese, and ducks that were "threatening the safety
of seaplanes landing at the airport. The three pigs gained (each) more than 200
pounds by the end of the nesting season. This years count found half as many
nests! The airport is apparently going to put more pigs on the island. What is
surprising about the article is the tone of it which implies that such a be-
havior is to be applauded.
