A few yeasrs ago, while stationed on Shemya Island (Aleutian
Islands, Alaska), I observed playful behavior of ravens.
The ravens would dive over a cliff, with wings folded, into a
driving gale (over 40 knots), only to appear a few seconds later,
playing with debris being blown up the cliff, sometimes trading
pieces back and forth with another raven.
Another trait was one raven shouldering up a gainst another while
perched on an antenna support bar, playfully bumping the shouderee
along the bar.
These birds were skillful aerobats, and entertaining to watch by
the hour.
