Tweeters,
I spent about an hour yesterday afternoon birding the road along Antoine Creek
which is immediately north of Chelan Co. border in Okanogan Co.(Delorme pg 84
A-1). I found a hunting Pygmy Owl in bright sunlight and a very tame flock of
18 Pine Grosbeaks feeding on mistletoe in a dying Ponderosa Pine.
I had not noticed this before but in this flock, the ratio of males to females
was about 1:10. There were only 2 red males in the whole flock. I saw no
"russet" males either. I wonder if this is a typical ratio.
Both the owl and Grosbeaks sat still for close range photos.
