On Snipe ...

I went birding last Saturday at Scriber Lake Park in the Lynnwood area where
I had the great pleasure of seeing a Snipe up close. This was the first time
I have actually had a good look at one. It was standing on a log about 10
feet off the path in the boggy area on the North side of the lake and let me
observe it for several minutes. Snipe really are beautiful birds when they
sit still!

On Landscape design ...

I am a big fan of the old Hawthorn in the front yard of our apartment
building. It has the benefit of flowers (and lots of insects) in the spring
and berries in the winter. It has attracted numerous species of warblers in
both spring and fall migration, as well as a whole lot of other birds.
