Has anybody been out to Magnuson lately ? There seems to be a
Euro-American hybrid wigeon hanging about with the flock of
50 or so Americans. It is colored (or should I say coloured ?)
as follows:
Sides similar to Euro but without the clear delineation between
the grey sides and pinkish breast. The actual grey area may be a
little bit diminished.
Head dark brown on hind crown and nape only, sharply delineated from
a speckly greyish-tan face (the two-tone effect similar to that
of a female Black Scoter). The geren facial stripe of the American
not present except anteriorly around the eye. Creamy forehead.
If anybody gets a chance to see the bird and has other ideas
about its identity (eg. eclipse male Euro, etc.) Please let
us know.
