Hello, this is Portland Audubon's Rare Bird Alert. This recording was
made Thursday, December 15th. If you have anything to add, call Harry Nehls
at 233-3976.

There's an unverified report that the ROSS' GULL was seen again at McNary
Dam DEC 10.

The WHOOPER SWAN has not been seen since DEC 6, but may still be somewhere
in the Summer Lake Wildlife Area.

A wintering SAY'S PHOEBE has been reported about the BLM offices near the
fairgrounds in Tillamook. It's been around since DEC 2.

Two EMPEROR GEESE were at Netarts Bay DEC 13. There are over 500 BRANTS in
the bay now, and one of the EMPEROR [GEESE] was among the flock.

A dead PARAKEET AUKLET was found on Clatsop Beach, near Camp Rilea, DEC 12.

Three male PINE GROSBEAKS visited a feeder in Camas, Washington, DEC 8.

The BLUE JAY continues to be seen at North Plains.

A GREAT EGRET was in Scappoose Bottoms DEC 10. That day a flock of 60
[LONG-BILLED] DOWITCHERS were along Rentanaar Road, on Sauvie Island.
Over 500 SNOW GEESE are on the east side of the Island now.

Large numbers of ducks, geese, and swans are still in the Forest Grove area.
HOODED MERGANSERS have been reported from many areas as they come out into
the open. EURASIAN WIGEON are now showing up in the regular areas, with
several reported at East and West Moreland Parks in Portland. Many WHITE-
THROATED SPARROWS are being reported. Apparently it's a good winter for them.

Many Christmas Bird Counts are scheduled for the weekend, so many of the
participants will be stretched thin. Every count will need help. If you can
get out, give them a hand. Saturday's counts, west of the Cascades, include
Salem, Roseburg, Tillamook, and Grants Pass. Sunday's counts are Columbia
Estuary, Coos Bay, Forest Grove, Sauvie Island, and Upper Nestucca. Monday
will be Florence, and Tuesday is Corvallis.

That's it for this week.
