Bob Woodley saw a female GARGANEY on December 15 and again on
December 20 in Richland, Benton County, Washington. The bird was
seen near the Richland Yacht Club which is just downstream from
the Shiloh Rivershore Motel. Bob will be gone for the Christmas
weekend, but after that you may call him at 509-943-4826. See
Washington DeLorme p. 39, b-6.
.
Dan Svingen had a good gull day at the Fighting Creek Landfill
south of Coeur d'Alene, Kootenai County, Idaho on December 17.
Dan reports 8 immature GLAUCOUS GULLS, 2 first winter THAYER'S
GULLS, and a third winter or adult plumaged MEW GULL. The
landfill is about 14 miles south of Coeur d'Alene, and the
entrance is between milepost 415 and 416 on the west side of US
95. Stop in at the office and ask permission to view the birds.
Better yet, call ahead and let them know you are coming. The
phone number is 208-769-4402.
.
The next day, December 18, Dan reports an ICELAND GULL from the
Clearwater River near Lewiston, Nez Perce County, Idaho. The bird
was loafing on the gravel bars just upstream from Potlatch
Corporation, near the weigh station on US 12. See Idaho DeLorme
p. 54, a-1.
.
December 17 Dan Svingen reports two RUSTY BLACKBIRDS, one male and
one female, along Hell's Gulch Flat just north of St. Maries,
Benewah County, Idaho. See Idaho DeLorme p. 60, c-2.
.
A HARLAN'S RED-TAILED HAWK was observed by Dan Svingen near the
the US 95 - Idaho 6 junction near Potlatch, Latah County, Idaho.
The bird was 3.5 miles north of the junction along US 95 on
December 18. See Idaho DeLorme p. 58, b-1.
.
BLUE JAYS are still in Moscow, Latah County, Idaho. Three birds
were seen Sunday by Cindy McCormack between Grant and Blaine
Streets near B, as in Blue Jay, Street. If you're still looking
for this species, it seems to most frequent about two blocks on
either side of Blaine, from First Street on the south to F Street
on the north.
.
Cindy also reports another BLUE JAY along Harlo Point Road just
north of Harrison, Kootenai County, Idaho on December 18. The
bird was about 2 miles west from Idaho 97. To get there, take
Idaho 97 north from Harrison across the iron truss bridge over the
CdA River and take the first left onto Harlo Point Road. While
you're out there, Cindy saw 100 TUNDRA SWANS on the ice there
December 18. See Idaho DeLorme p. 60, half way between b- and
c-1.5.

I hope Santa brings you some good birds!
