This novel is amazing. The quote given is a good example. One of those
rare sci-fi books from the late 50's/60's (I forget exactly) which
rise above the genre's fixation with rocket ships, robots, etc.

I haven't read it in years, since before I was a birder, really! Since
before I was a computer freak, actually - the few of you that know me
will wince over that...scary.
