ODF&W has a rather extensive program on wild turkey introductions
that has been so successful that hunting is now allowed. They are
transplanting the Rio Grand subspecies from Texas. Uusally they
trade for the birds, they give Texas some wild chuckar or pheasants
and receive turkeys in the trade. I don't know what the program is
for eastern Oregon but Ken Durbin in the Portland office is the
upland game bird project leader and could fill you in on this and any
other upland game bird introductions.
