I asked Alan Contreras for more information about the Oregon Birds book.
He sent me the following and said to feel free to post it to Tweeters,
for the benefit of others who want more information.

Burt, sorry to forget that most WA bird people might not be
familiar with this project. This is a book that provides species
accounts (status, distribution, timing of migration, rarity
records, habitat etc.) for every species that occurs in Oregon.
It has range maps for some species, and some biogeographic info
about the state as a whole. It is intended to be useful to a wide
variety of birders and resource managers who need a single up to
date reference on the state's birds. It does not replace
gabrielson and Jewett (1940) as a historical reference, but it is
otherwise intended to fill the same niche.

I think most Washington birders would find it useful as a chunk
of easily accessible data about what's happening along your
southern border. For example, the locations of new colonies of
Tricolored Blackbirds and Black-throated Sparrows are noted, as
are the frequencies of occurrence of various rarities.
