Hal Opperman has used Burt's lifelist to create a new list. See more
information below. This new list will be archived in tweeters but there
is a delay as they are quite busy now with converting from the
IBM 3090 UWAVM system to the unix LISTPROC.

If anyone would like a copy in the meantime I'd be happy to forward it.

I got Burt Guttman's checklist off the server recently and found it very
useful as a base for working up various other lists. One of the ones I have
completed takes all of the species in the ABA area that have been accepted
and published so far (through last month) by the ABA's checklist committee,
but arranges them according to the Sibley-Ahlquist-Monroe classification
derived from DNA-DNA hybridization studies. This means, of course, a
different sequence of orders, families and species, many changes of name and
some cases of lumping and splitting of species. Maybe there are Tweeters
subscribers who would like to have a copy. It does give some idea of what
the future is going to look like once the AOU catches up.
