After much discussion between the state, FRG, Woodland Park Zoo, and
Washington Mutual, several decisions concerning the WAMU Peregrines have
been made. As you know, the three eyasses from the building are currently
being raised by "foster" peregrines until they are old enough to be
released or placed in a wild eyrie. Since releasing very young and
inexperienced birds into the wild would be risky anywhere, it was decided
to place them back on the WAMU site in several weeks (rationale being they
would have an adult to defend them, feed them, and teach them). In order
for the male falcon to remain at WAMU in the interim and not become
aggressive toward the young when introduced to the site, an older eyass
(several weeks old) was placed on WAMU this weekend and the male has
been observed feeding it at perching/roosting nearby the nest box. The
"new" eyass will stay at the WAMU site for approximately two weeks and
then removed and returned to the breeder who donated it to the project.
Sonn afterwards, the original eyasses will be returned to WAMU under
close supervision. If all goes well, the young will fledge in
