Greetings

For those of you with access to gopher software, or World WIde Web
software (like Mosaic, Cello or Lynx), you might take a look at what
birdchatter Jack Siler has done at Penn. He has created a birdgopher,
with newsletters, checklists, access to the AVES GIF/Sound archive,
and other goodies. Set your gopher for:

simon.wharton.upenn.edu

[enter this from your shell prompt] gopher simon.wharton.upenn.edu

example = Carson% gopher simon.wharton.upenn.edu

If you have WWW browsing software, go to the URL:

http://compstat.wharton.upenn.edu:8001/

Perhaps this is a way to take some of the pressure off Chuck. Such
gopher servers would be good places for BIRDNNNN archives, trip
reports, etc. Maybe this is even the wave of the future!

BTW - if you don't know about gopher, or WWW browsers, ask your local
computer gurus. They will be a lot more helpful than anyone else
(e.g., me) since they can give you locally useful insights about your
particular system. I don't mind giving information about something
that I know about (e.g., FTP, or GIF files), but I am still learning
this other networking stuff myself and don't really know enough about
it to give useful advice ;-)
