Hello, this is Portland Audubon's Rare Bird Alert. This recording
was made Thursday, March 3rd. If you have anything to add, call
Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

The HOODED ORIOLE continues to be seen at Hunter Creek, south of Gold
Beach. A SNOW BUNTING was on the south jetty of the Rogue River FEB 27.
A TURKEY VULTURE was at Sixes that day. TREE SWALLOWS and RUFOUS
HUMMINGBIRDS were well scattered in the southern Oregon coastal areas.
Three CINNAMON TEAL, 4 BLACK PHOEBE, and 2 SWAMP SPARROWS were at the marsh
at the fairgrounds in Myrtle Point.

A female OLDSQUAW was at Yaquina Bay FEB 25. Up to 70 COMMON LOONS were in
the bay that day. A gray-backed GLAUCOUS GULL was at Moolack Beach north
of Newport FEB 25.

A few TREE SWALLOWS and 5 GREATER YELLOWLEGS were east of Astoria, at
Brownsmead, FEB 26. A pair of WHITE-TAILED KITES were on territory near
Fort Clatsop over the weekend. Another pair are at J.B. Hansen Wildlife
Refuge, in Washington, west of Cathlamet. A VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOW was at
Deep Creek, Washington, FEB 27. A heavy LOON movement was noticed along
the coast during the week; mostly of PACIFIC LOON, but all 3 [COMMON,
PACIFIC, RED-THROATED] are involved. Two bright male TUFTED DUCKS are now
at Puget Island [,Washington]. They are most often seen in the slough near
the bridge from Little Island to Puget Island.

Over 600 TREE SWALLOWS were at the Forest Grove ponds FEB 25. They have
been seen on Sauvie Island, and in other areas since then.

Migrant SANDHILL CRANES began arriving on Sauvie Island during the weekend.
Large numbers are now being seen. A flock of 75 was seen flying north over
Scio, in the central Willamette valley, FEB 26.

MEW GULLS are in large numbers along the Columbia River now, and are in
Clackamas and Washington counties.

A LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE was in the Fayetteville area, southwest of Corvallis,
FEB 21. (The Fayetteville Snowy Owl has not been seen lately.)

A flock of 60 MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS were in the Clarno area of Central Oregon
FEB 27. Large numbers of [AMERICAN] ROBINS, and [TOWNSEND'S] SOLITAIRES are
still in that area, along with many PINE SISKINS and AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES.

A HARRIS' SPARROW was at Willow Creek Wildlife Area near Arlington, MAR 2.

That's it for this week.
