Hello, this is Portland Audubon's Rare Bird Alert. This recording
was made Thursday, March 10th. If you have anything to add, call
Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

A YELLOW-BILLED LOON was reported from Yaquina Bay MAR 6. Over 350 BRANT
were in the bay that day.

Three VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS, several flocks of PINE SISKINS, some RED
CROSSBILLS, and a couple of BAND-TAILED PIGEONS were at Fort Stevens State
Park MAR 5.

Small numbers of TREE SWALLOWS are still being reported. Four were checking
out nest boxes in Estacada MAR 9. A TURKEY VULTURE was northwest of Portland
at West Union MAR 7. A RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD was at Beaverton the same day.

On MAR 4 three GLAUCOUS GULLS and 6 WESTERN GULLS were at the pellet plant on
Sauvie Island. The (EURASIAN) GREEN-WINGED TEAL was still at Virginia Lake on
the Island, MAR 6. Large numbers of CANADA GEESE are now arriving on the
Island, with a flock of over 200 WHITE-FRONTED GEESE found in Scappoose
Bottoms, MAR 9. Good numbers of SANDHILL CRANES are now on Sauvie Island,
especially on the east side in the farm fields.

The SNOWY OWL is still being seen along McNary Beach Road, near Umatilla. It
is getting late for this species, and it should leave in a week or two. A male
COMMON REDPOLL and a male OLDSQUAW were at McNary Dam MAR 7.

That's it for this week.
