Subject: Summer Field Assistants (Indiana)
Date: Mar 10 16:01:55 1994
From: padoran - padoran at INDIANA.EDU

Field assistants needed from late April/early May until early August for
a study of the effects of landscape pattern (including timber and
wildlife management strategies) on the reproductive success of
forest-dependent breeding Neotropical migrant landbirds in south-central
Indiana. Study sites are located in the heavily forested ridge and
ravine landscape southeast of Bloomington, IN. Most sites are in the
Hoosier National Forest and nearby state properties. Focus is on the
factors influencing nest predation, parasitism by the Brown-headed
Cowbird, and fledging success. Work will involve finding and monitoring
nests, color banding of birds, intensive mist-netting in four ravine
sites, behavioral observations, habitat characterization of nest sites,
identification of nest predators, and the quantification of foliage
insects. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in bird
identification and field techniques. Applicants should be in good
physical condition, as field work involves much hiking in rough terrain.
Applicants must provide own binoculars. Salary will range from
$2400-$3000 depending upon experience.
