I had a neat experience over the weekend that I wanted to share.
I was in my backyard (near downtown Lexington Kentucky) Morris dancing
with a few friends (but that's another mailing list :-) when I heard
a hawk screaming. A moment later a great horned owl came flying over
the trees, pursued by a peregrine falcon. The owl landed in a tall
tree nearby, in plain view. The falcon proceeded to buzz the owl a few
times, then circle slowly around the area, flying off after 5 minutes or
so. The owl looked quite perturbed by this. A few minutes later it was
harrassed by a couple of blue jays, but ignored them. Ten minutes later
three crows arrive to take over, one of them dive bombing the owl several
times before chasing it away. Quite a show, and I think I will need to
start a new list - birds seen while morris dancing.
