I was talking on the phone a few minutes ago looking out my bedroom
window, when suddenly! Moose are always so sudden! So much bigger than
anything you'd think could appear just like that in your yard--from behind
the car. And that was the calf; a nice dark chestnut color. When I walked
outside to take a picture, Momma's head emerged round the corner of the
house. She's a lighter brown, they are very busy even as I write chomping
down on the small alder trees around my yard, nosing and I mean NOSING
around the bird feeder and canoe. Well, they're not uncommon around here,
but it's been a while since I had one walk right round the corner as if it
lived here.

Now they're slowly ambling off into the woods, through the soft snow,
chomping as they go. No new birds, but a group of us are going owling
tonight.
