I've noticed that many wrens (which I understand are related to
dippers) make similar 'dipping' motions. Rock wrens in particular
seem to do a lot of dipping. So any explanation for dippers should
apply to other wrens, i.e., the explanation can't be related solely
to an aquatic habitat.
