While scouting out Okanogan County for the upcoming Okanagan Challange, Stan Rayand i found two noteable occurances.

First, while scanning Muskrat Lake which is south of Chesaw, we found over 100
Black Terns flycatching low over the lake and as high as several hundred feet
above the water. As we watched, several dozen more arrived from the east to join those already there. The total numer was about 100 individuals.

Later we visited the Mt Anne road which is near Wacaunda because of recent
reports of Great Gray Owl. We drove slowly up the road but were not impressed
with the habitat which consisted mostly of dense lodgepole and ponerosa pine.
Clearings were apparently non-existent. But at exactly 1.1 miles up the road
a huge form flew from the woods swooping up and landing several meters up in a
pine. We quickly got out of the car and confirmed that it was a Great Gray.
It had a small mammal in its beak. It stayed for just a moment before continuing across the road and into the woods.
