In response to the question below: yes, there IS gravel along the
railroad tracks that run along the navy property at SW Lake Union
(that fenced-in parking area). I've been walking by there everyday
(to and from work) for a year, and this was the first time I've seen
or heard a killdeer. There is a regular group of dog and dog-owners
who "do their stuff" around that park; would you think a
ground-dwelling bird would even try nesting in such a location?

I wonder if the is any gravel near by the SW Lake Union sighting? Last
year a pair fledge 3 from the Mountlake Fill E-5 parking lot( yeah, the
same one they want to turn into a soccer field)
