Hello birders, this is the Bird Brain, voice of Seattle
Audubon's Bird Sightings Hotline for THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 3,
1994, at 8 AM.

An adult male BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER appeared at
Marilyn & Bill Hatheway's Mercer Is. feeder Nov. 2. Call
ahead at 232-6199 to arrange a visit as long as it lingers.
This is the 3rd Washington state record.

Charles Evans and Dale Wesley report a winter plumaged
KITTLITZ'S MURRELET off the end of Wharf Road on Samish Bay
Nov. 1. It was north & east of a small park there. This
may prove to be Washington's 2nd state record of this
Alaskan specialty.

A SNOW BUNTING was reported at the north end of Magnuson
Park in Seattle Nov. 2.

An adult COMMON BLACK-HEADED GULL was spotted 200 yards off
Alki Pt. feeding with BONAPARTE'S and other gulls on Oct.
27. It's out there somewhere, so be on the lookout. Other
noteworthy Alki sightings include a PARASITIC JAEGER OCT. 21
and HEERMANN'S GULLS and an ANCIENT MURRELET flying by Oct.
23. Four late PARASITIC JAEGERS were spotted from the ferry
just off Bainbridge Is. Oct. 29.

The EMPEROR GOOSE spotted Oct. 20 in a flock of CANADA'S in
a buffalo pasture s of Everett near Silver Lake has not been
seen since. It was seen at the corner of 136th and 35th Ave
SE.

A flock of 25 CATTLE EGRETS has been hanging about the
junction of Lee Rd. and SR 17 1 mile northeast of Othello
since Oct. 26. Single GLAUCOUS GULLS are frequenting the
Columbia River behind Rock Is. and Rocky Reach Dams since
Oct. 20. A single male RUSTY BLACKBIRD was reported at Soap
Lake, grant Co. Oct. 29. Call Mike Denny at 509-529-0080

WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS continue to make news. The bird at
the end of Edgecombe Rd. on Bainbridge Is. was still present
Oct. 26. Two were reported at the Kent Ponds after mid-
October, another was on Ebey Is. north of the STP Oct. 25,
and yet another in Bellevue at the Lakehills Greenbelt near
the corner of 156th Ave SE and SE 16th St in a large flock
of sparrows. Three SWAMP SPARROWS were noted Oct. 29 at a
restricted area on Spencer Is. east of the Everett STP, the
first for the year.

PEREGRINES have been seen regularly on the power towers
beside the I-5 Ship Canal Bridge and at the grain terminals
off Myrtle Edwards Park. They have also been active near
the nest site on the east face of the Washington Mutual
Bldg. downtown. Other recent sightings have come from
Ballard and the Ravenna district in Seattle.

The Montlake Fill Oct. 29 hosted an AMERICAN KESTREL, a RED-
TAILED HAWK, a BALD EAGLE, a NORTHERN SHRIKE, a PECTORAL
SANDPIPER, a WOOD DUCK, an AMERICAN BITTERN, and a late
GREEN HERON . NORTHERN SHRIKES were also noted at the
Lakehills Greenbelt in Bellevue and a WOOD DUCK was at
Juanita Bay park this past week. SHARP-SHINNED and COOPER'S
HAWKS, RED-TAILED HAWKS, and MERLINS have been noted
migrating over Seattle at several points this past week.

Two immature FRANKLIN'S GULLS, several EARED GREBES, and an
OLDSWUAW were at the Everett STP through Nov. 1. At Ft.
Flagler on Marrowstone Is. on the Olympic Peninsula there
were 15 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS, hundreds of RED-THROATED and
PACIFIC LOONS, OLDSQUAWS, HARLEQUIN DUCKS, and EARED GREBES.
Two late GLODEN PLOVERS were there Oct. 29. Penn Cove on
Whidbey Is. Oct. 30 had 140 BARROW'S GOLDENEYES and 430
BLACK TURNSTONES. Many of the latter were on the mussel
platforms in the southwest corner of the cove.

A MARBLED MURRELET on Ross Lake in the North Cascades Oct.
16 was out of place (though they may nest nearby). Two
NORTHERN GOSHAWKS were reported at the Ross Lake Resort also
that day.

Two PINE GROSBEAKS were spotted Oct. 23 on Mt. Rainier along
the Deadhorse Trail above Paradise Lodge.

The Raptor Rehabilitation Center at the Zoo is threatened
