We live in the Edmonds area, north of Seattle.
Eagles used to nest in a tree on a five acre tract overlooking the Sound
nearby. The eaglets were clearly visible from a nearby road.
About two years ago, the tree was topped below the nest.
The property is now in the hearing stage for a planned housing
development. A hearing before Edmonds Hearing Examiner is imminent.

Neighborhood gossip says that the owners "got permission"
to top the tree. Is this likely? If so, from whom? How can this
be checked? Are eagles still a factor in land use decisions?

The area in question is still eagle habitat (frequent sightings), even
though they did not nest there this year.
