Subject: Rare Bird Alert

On November 3, 1994 a bird believed to be a WOOD SANDPIPER was found at the
Delkatla Wildlife Sanctuary near Masset on the Queen Charlotte Islands,
British Columbia. The bird was observed at length by two experienced birders
and was photographed. If it can be confirmed by further sightings or
through the photographs, this would be the first record for British Columbia
and possibly the first accepted sighting for the Pacific coast outside of
Alaska. Watch for it in the Pacific Northwest marshlands...two years ago a
Mongolian Plover was seen in the same area of the Charlottes and a few days
later a Mongolian Plover was identified at Esquimalt Lagoon near Victoria.
Perhaps we'll be lucky again.
