This is Kas Dumroese with the northern Idaho / eastern Washington
bird hotline for Friday, November, 4.
.
The trio of Cindy McCormack, Deb Buetler, and James Holloway
report a first winter WHITE-WINGED SCOTER on Spring Valley
Reservoir east of Troy, Idaho, on October 30. Also with the
scoter was a COMMON LOON. Searches on October 31 by several
observers failed to locate the birds. To get to the reservoir,
take Idaho 8 east from Troy. At mile post 17, turn left onto the
well-marked Spring Valley Road. Stay on pavement as long as you
can, and once the road turns to gravel, it's another mile to the
reservoir. See Idaho DeLorme p. 58, half way between b- and c-1.5.
.
Mike Denny reports the CATTLE EGRETS are still being seen near
Othello, Washington. On October 30, Mike had 26 birds between Lee
and Cunningham Roads, 1.25 miles northeast of Othello. The birds
were in the alfalfa fields on the left side of Washington 17. See
Washington DeLorme p. 53, b-7.
.
Also that day, Mike reports a SANDERLING at Soap Lake, along with
3000+ RUDDY DUCKS, 12 BARROW'S GOLDENEYE, and 200+ EARED GREBES.
Also at Soap Lake, directly behind the Desert Inn Resort was a
male, winter-plumaged RUSTY BLACKBIRD. Mike also saw a second
year GLAUCOUS GULL along Soap Lake. Soap Lake is on Washington
DeLorme p. 68 and 69, right on the crease between a and b.
.
Continuing along, Mike reports a single OSPREY at Sunset Lake. At
Brook Lake, near Stratford, Washington, about 15 miles east of
Soap Lake along Washington 28, Mike tallied 10 SNOW GEESE and 2
TRUMPETER SWANS. Brook Lake is on Washington DeLorme p. 69, a-6.
.
At Blue Lake on October 30, Mike Denny observed 2 BONAPARTE'S
GULLS. Blue Lake is on Washington DeLorme p. 85, d-5. Dale Goble
saw 2 Bonaparte's Gulls on Spring Valley Reservoir on October 31.
.
BLUE JAYS are still being reported. Mike Denny reports 2 at the
intersection of North College Avenue and Walluwa Avenue in College
Place, Washington on November 1 and 2. Two Blue Jays are visiting
Ralph Holick's feeder in Troy, Idaho.
.
Finally, Randy Foltz reports a Golden Eagle on a carcass
at the top of the Winchester Grade, near Winchester, Idaho, on
October 30.
.
Good birding!
