An adult Whooper Swan was found around noon today at Summer Lake
Wildlife Management area, Oregon. Craig Miller and I verified the
identification at 3:00 pm. The bird is in the display pond
across the road from the headquarters buildings. There are
numerous Tundra and a few neck-collared Trumpeter Swans with
it. This bird is not banded. To reach Summer Lake, head
south from Bend on Hwy 97 past LaPine. Turn Left (SE) on
State Hiway 31. Summer Lake is 100 miles from Bend. The
display pond is right on Hiway 31. Bend is approximately
170 miles SE of Portland.
