Today there was one snow goose with about 1,000 Canadas in a field at the
Columbian White Tailed Deer Refuge. Is this a common occurence?

I saw my first MARSH WREN and EARED GREBE. Got a good, long look at a
male HOODED MERGANSER. Beautiful!

For those who enjoy large mammals, the herd of bull elk has now grown to
nine, all with trophy racks. They are resting comfortably at the edges of
the field with the geese.

This afternoon our friendly neighborhood SHARP-SHINNED HAWK (?) swooped down
on our feeding Pine Siskins and Chickadees, missed them all, crashed
around in a large tree, and finally roosted on a tree limb where he sat
long enough for me to set up the scope and get a good look. My
identification skills are somewhat suspect, but the wing shape,
coloration, and size seemed to fit.
