Thanks to everyone who sent owl comments!! They were really enlightening.
Consensus is it was a great horned owl - but I'll have to get the birdsong
tapes. I also really enjoyed the flicker discussion - I've been getting
complacent but I'll be looking at mine more closely now.

I saw a Townsend's Warbler in with a flock of chickadees and kinglets at our
home this weekend. I assume this is relatively common for winter, but I
happened to be doing a bird count for the WDFW winter bird survey at the
time and noticed they didn't include it on their form. I'm curious: How
typical is this (can I expect to see it again)? Is this bird around during
the summer too, or does it come down only in the winter? Do they come to
feeders? Anyone else seen any lately in the lowlands?
