The Ross' Gull at McNary Dam was seen through at least this afternoon
(November 28).

McNary Dam is just upstream on the Columbia River from Umatilla, Oregon.
The best viewing site is from the visitor observation deck on the Oregon
side of the river. The bird has been feeding below the deck.

Phone calls to the RBA report that the bird is very pinkish or rose
colored but lacks the black neck band. The consensus is that it is a
beautiful bird.

PLEASE NOTE: The Army Corps of Engineers which operated McNary Dam is
very concerned with the presence of a large number of birders. They have
recently reseeded a grassy area and are upset that some birders have
walked onto the reseeded area. Ever sensitive to environmental
degradation (or to military discipline), the Corps is threatening to close
the entire area is people continue to stray into closed areas.

PLEASE OBEY ALL CLOSED AREAS SO THAT THE BIRD CAN CONTINUE TO BE SEEN.
