A possible solution to the problem presented by Michael Price re geographical
reference to this region is to take the approach used by Pojar and MacKinnon
in their excellent 'Plants of the Pacific Northwest Coast' (B.C. Ministry
of Forests and Lone Pine Publishing, Vancouver, 1994.) They define the
'northern Pacific coastal region' to include all of the land west of the
crest of the coastal mountains, from Prince William Sound south to the
Oregon Coast Range and the Cascades. By dealing with the unity of the
region, they avoid the problem of 'my Southwest is your Northwest', etc.etc.

I suspect that there is probably no more unified consensus on this in Canada
than there is in the U.S.
