While I can't speak for everyone east of the Cascades, I do want to
contribute to raising Dennis's consciousness, so: "inland empire" is a
chamber-of-commerce creation like so many such terms from the end of the
last century. It was Spokane's attmept to convince people that it was
the center of at least something.

Doesn't the Columbia tie together BC, ID, MT, OR, and WA east of the
Cascades and west of the continental divide?
