Subject: orphaned bobwhite?

My husband, Peter, and I have had a covey of mountain quail around our
house (s.w. of Eugene) since they hatched. All but one have completed
their molt into adult plumage. There is one however that appears to be a
different species or a hybrid. At first I thought it was just late to
molt, but it has become obvious that this is not the case. Based on the
guide books I would guess it is a northern bobwhite. This individual
(appears like the drawing of the female n.bobwhite) seems to have
"integrated" into the group.

Has anyone seen Bobwhites in this area? Might they interbreed with
mountain quail? Do orphanded bobwhites "hang out" with similar species?
