Scott Atkinson reported an EASTERN PHOEBE with a flock of
migrating warblers in Discovery Park September 4 but it
could not be relocated later that day. Andy Stepniewski
found a BLACKPOLL WARBLER September 4 & 5 in a small grove
of black locust trees near Mattawa in Grant Co. while Kevin
Aanerud found another with migrating YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS
at the Vantage Point horse farm at Vantage September 8. The
Vantage bird could not be relocated the next day. Bill
Tweit reported large numbers of migrants in Washtucna August
27-28 including a LEAST FLYCATCHER and a juv. CLAY-COLORED
SPARROW. This and other east side migrant traps should be
ripe for picking in the next few weeks.

A WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER was at Iona Island STP near the
Vancouver, B.C. airport September 3+. Call the Vancouver
bird hotline at 604-737-9910 for current details. Bob &
Georgia Ramsey report two WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS at Bottle
Beach sw of Westport Sept. 9 at the afternoon mid-tide.
This is a very rare bird in Washington.

A BAR-TAILED GODWIT was seen September 3 on the Ocean Shores
Game Range with a large flock of BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS. The
UPLAND SANDPIPER seen there the previous week has not been
seen since August 30. There and nearby on Damon Point/aka
the Catala Spit were up to 15 GOLDEN PLOVERS, most
apparently AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS, a few BAIRD'S
SANDPIPERS, a smattering of RED KNOTS, and a LAPLAND
LONGSPUR.

At the Tokeland Marina on the north shore of Willapa Bay
Aug. 21 at high tide there were 150 MARBLED GODWITS, 5
WILLETS, and 25 WHIMBRELS.

A MANX SHEARWATER of the nominate race has been seen with
SOOTY SHEARWATERS off Westport in late August. Patient and
lucky observers might spot it from shore among the masses of
migrating SOOTIES. Recent pelagic trips have reported good
numbers of BLACK-FOOTED ALBATROSSES, PINK-FOOTED
SHEARWATERS, and FORK-TAILED STORM-PETRELS as well as
SABINE'S GULLS, LONG-TAILED and POMARINE JAEGERS. FULMARS
and CASSIN'S AUKLETS have been rare, while BULLER'S
SHEARWATERS are just beginning to pass through. For

Steve Mlodinow identified a LESSER GOLDFINCH along the west
dike of the main pond at the Everett STP September 3. Also
present there that day were seven species of swallows
including PURPLE MARTINS and BANK SWALLOWS, of which 10 were
present there September 6. The FRANKLIN'S GULLS at the
Everett Ponds numbered 15 September 5.

Vic Nelson added a fine adult LONG-TAILED JAEGER to his yard
list at Pt. No Point September 3. Migration off the point
has been heavy with 2000 COMMON TERNS, 4000-5000 RED-NECKED
PHALAROPES and numbers of PARASITIC JAEGERS, CASPIAN TERNS,
HEERMANN'S, CALIFORNIA, and BONAPARTE'S GULLS noted
September 1-3.

Large numbers of RED-NECKED PHALAROPES and COMMON TERNS were
noted also last weekend on the Edmonds-Kingston ferry run.
Nearby, a GREAT EGRET was at Manitou Beach on Bainbridge Is.
September 3 for the second Island record. Other GREAT
EGRETS have been spotted at March Point in Skagit Co. and at
Willapa Bay, Grays Harbor, and Nisqually NWR in the past two
weeks.

Fair shorebirding has been reported from the Edmonds marsh
near the ferry landing and at Kennedy Creek on Mud Bay north
of Olympia. Two FRANKLIN'S GULLS and a dozen AMERICAN
GOLDEN PLOVERS were on Mud Bay Sept. 1.

GREEN HERONs, as many as 3 individuals, have been spotted
recently at the Montlake Fill on the UW campus; others have
been seen at Green Lake, at Twin Ponds, and on Ballinger
Lake, all in the Seattle area. A PECTORAL SANDPIPER was
present at the Montlake Fill through Sept. 1 and a COMMON
SNIPE was there September 6. A juvenile EARED GREBE has
likewise been present for the past week on the central pond.
A COOPER'S HAWK and a RED-TAILED HAWK were at the fill Sept.
1 also. A juv. FRANKLIN'S GULL was reported with
BONAPARTE'S GULLS on the beach at Golden Gardens Sept. 1.

Martin Muller reports that up to three PEREGRINES are
currently foraging in the downtown precincts of Seattle,
including the father from this summer's nesting pair and a
potential new mate for him. The surviving male fledgling
died after injuring himself for the second time but the
surviving female is apparently healthy and has departed for
parts unknown.

Two WHITE-TAILED KITES were located at their traditional
site east of Raymond in Pacific Co. between Lebam and
Frances along Elk Prairie Rd. September 1.
