Hi, (from hunn at u.washington.edu)

I spent a couple of hours at the Kent ponds yesterday afternoon (ignoring
the no trespassing signs, I must admit) and found a fine Great Egret
there, as well as 5 Greater White-fronted Geese that flew in while I
watched, 3 Greater Yellowlegs, and 9 Long-billed and 1 Short-billed
Dowitchers (all juveniles, seen at close range). I tried to turn a
female Blue-=winged Teal into a Garganey without success. There was just
one BWT among the numerous eclipsed Green-winged Teals, Mallards,
Pintails, N. Shovelers, Gadwalls, and American Wigeons, plus 5 juv.
Hooded Mergansers. The northern small ponds are all dry but the main
ponds are now shallow enough that they may be good for shorebirds during
the next few weeks. Does anyone know if permissions might be requested
for birding. The only reason for the no trespassing signs, it seems to
me, is to protect the government from law suits.

Gene Hunn.
