Hello BirdChat!

I am happy to announce that I now have BirdServ able
to manage sending out individual hotlines to a
list of subscribers. This is different than birders
being able to do a file request of an individual hotline
off of BirdServ. The trouble with that is the requestor
does not know when the newest update of the hotline
is available.

With this new BirdServ listserv emu-lation, birders
send a subscription request to the current BirdServ
address at MathLab at PimaCC.Pima.EDU with the following in the message
body:

call birdserv sub
name_of_hotline


As an example...

call birdserv sub
New Jersey


When a new New Jersey hotline comes through BirdEast, BirdServ
recognizes it and then sends it out to the individual
hotline subscribers.

At this point, put down any hotline, as if it is not
currently available I will take it as a vote to
aquire that hotline or have it put in standard format. Those
hotlines that are in standard format are already available
with this system.


If you think about it, this is a good way to distribute
newsletters, where the newsletter is sent to BirdServ by
the provider. I would like BirdChatter to think about getting
their birding newsletter online and start making
arrangements. Once the newsletter is online, it will be
made available by file request (which by the way BirdServ also
does dial up file requests by BBS system operators) AND it
will be indexed and searchable by email query through the
Sightings Bank system.
