I find the mention of "late" Hammond's Flycatchers on the rare bird alert
interesting because I never really thought of mid-September Hammond's
Flycatchers
as late. In fact they are one of the more usual migrants to be found at
this
time of the year.

Many people don't realize that a rather significant aspect of the
Hammond's
Flycatcher biology is that it molts BEFORE the fall migration.
Mid-September
birds can be quite conspicuous in their fresh plumage, and quite easily
identifiable. I've seen reports of them as Western Flycatchers!
