I find a similar phenomenon may be occuring with Scrub Jays in western
Oregon. It seems that all of a sudden around late August/early September
you start seeing high-flying jays (juveniles?) all over. At first I
thought it was an indication of an unusually successful breeding year,
but I now see it every year about this time. But where are they going?
Is this post-breeding dispersal patterned? How far are individuals
travelling?
