Hi, Tweets.

My husband, Steven, and I had a good birding day Saturday, 15 April, even
though we dipped on our target bird: we wanted another look at the
beautiful white-tailed kite. We drove west on Highway 6 but did not spot
a kite, either near Adna nor at the Raymond airport. We did see some
interesting birds, though. Along Highway 6, east of Rainbow Falls State
Park, Steven spotted a small raptor neither of us could positively
identify, but we think it was an immature Cooper's hawk. Farther west,
on a side road adjacent to Hwy 6, we spotted and got good looks at a
kestrel, mostly brown, so female? However, it was on the return trip, by
way of Highway 107 to Montesano and Highway 8 at Elma, that we were
really thrilled by the birds we saw: three ospreys, at nests, in close
proximity to each other. The first was very close to a road: the nest
is on top of a bridge over the Chehalis River on hwy 107 approaching
Montesano. The second is very close to the highway interchange at 107
and 8, and the third is at the next exit off hwy 8 east of Elma, where it
can easily be observed from the county park near the highway. Two of the
ospreys were near the nests, and the third was sitting on its nest.
We hope everyone else had a great weekend of birding. --Anna Coles,
