I, too live in a 'city' neighborhood - west Olympia just off Division and
Walnut (14th). I have had coyotes in my backyard on several occasions.
When I lived out in the Mud Bay area, 3 miles to the west, coyotes were
in the yard practically every night. Coyotes are proving, from La Push
to North Carolina, that they are quite adaptable to humanity and its
'burbs. Don't consider your cats, trash cans or ground-nesting birds
safe from coyotes OR raccoons in the Puget trough.

No one, as yet, has begun to revile opossums for their depredations on
ground-nesters. Or skunks, or .....
