A small point: birds that hit windows don't break their necks. I have
dissected dozens of impact kills while preparing museum specimens, and
others with greater experience confirm this. If window bangers die, they
die from concussion and hemmoraging of the brain. The directions Susan
forwarded seem to be good advice - unlike a broken neck, the effects of
the concussion can be short or long-term, and may get better or worse
after an hour or two. If they get worse, the bird is probably a goner,
but if they get better, then bagging the bird will prevent it from being
caught and eaten while incapacitated. That may be all it needs.
