Today (Friday) at Boundary Bay there were large flocks (1000s) of
Dunlin, 100s of Black-bellied Plovers, a dozen Greater Yellowlegs and
small peeps (100s). I missed the best tide times and, at Boundary, this
puts the birds very far out. I assume the peeps were Westerns. I also
combed some of the fields in the area, but didn't see any shorebirds.
Serpentine Fen yielded just two Greater Yellowlegs. Drayton Harbor had
large numbers of Dunlin (I estimated 1200) and upwards of 5,000
Bonapartes Gulls (with a smattering of others) on the mudflats. These
gulls were spectacular! Blackie Spit had 6 Greater Yellowlegs.
The best is definitely yet to come.
