Sunday, 23rd April

Plenty of shorebirds at Bowerman Basin, not in huge numbers but nevertheless
pretty entertaining.

Dunlin 10,000+
Western Sandpiper 500+
Red Knot 150+
Sanderling 20-30
Greater Yellowlegs 3
Short-billed Dowitcher 60
Semi-palmeated Plover 100

Peregrine 1
Nothern Harrier 2

Fish & Wildlife are asking people to stay to the designated path. "Area
Closed" surprisingly enough means, area closed - apparently a few members of
the local Audubon Society, who have had many years experience of the situation
at Bowerman, chose to ignore the notices. As a result part of a program to
study how important the Bowerman Basin is to Western Sandpipers was
disrupted.

Banding of birds is being carried out during this week. Disturbance is being
kept to an absolute minimum, it would be even less if people kept to the
trail. The GUILTY know who they are - shame on you ;-)
